The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recovered the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) from the ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as investigations into the accident continue.

The Air Force disclosed that technical teams from the NAF and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed that the recovered recorder was intact.

In a statement issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said part of the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), commonly known as the black box, had also been recovered, while efforts were ongoing to locate and retrieve its remaining portion.

He added that additional aircraft wreckage, engine components and human remains had been recovered from the crash site.

According to the statement, recovery operations are continuing in the difficult swamp terrain, with technical teams working to retrieve outstanding aircraft components and facilitate the necessary examinations.

The Air Force said the investigation was being conducted carefully to ensure comprehensive and evidence-based findings on the circumstances surrounding the accident.

It also disclosed that the Directorate of Identification and Classification (DIC) was handling the necessary procedures for the proper identification of recovered human remains.

The NAF further assured families of the victims that it was maintaining regular engagement with them, while discussions with relevant authorities over environmental concerns raised by the host community remained part of the ongoing response.

While appreciating public concern and interest, the Air Force appealed for patience and understanding, noting that the recovery and investigation processes required time, professional attention and careful coordination.

It stressed that the objective of the investigation was not only to establish the cause of the accident but also to identify lessons that would strengthen flight safety, improve air operations and protect the lives of military personnel and civilians.

The NAF reaffirmed its commitment to providing verified updates as the recovery and investigation progress.
