NAF targets suspected terrorists’ hideouts in Borno
Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says terrorists hideout in the Tumbuns on the outskirts of Lake Chad in Borno State were targeted with air strikes damaging their structures and critical logistical base.
This was stated in a statement made accessible to newsmen in Abuja by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, saying that at Tumbun Fulani, terrorists were observed loading jerricans in two gun trucks concealed under shrubs.
According to the statement, Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu were specifically targeted between September 27-30, 2023, on the eve of Independence Day, when terrorist activities in the areas were confirmed to have posed a threat to military formations and law-abiding Nigerians residing in the areas.
Gabkwet said that the NAF aircraft were knotted to interdict the location, believed to be a major logistics base, adding that after the strike, Battle Damage Assessment revealed several terrorists were neutralized and the gun trucks destroyed.
“At Tumbun Fulani, terrorists were observed loading jerricans in 2 gun trucks concealed under shrubs. Subsequently, NAF aircraft were scrambled to interdict the location, believed to be a major logistics base.

“After the strike, Battle Damage Assessment revealed several terrorists were neutralized and the gun trucks destroyed.
“Similar strikes were also undertaken at Tumbun Shitu after structures believed to be terrorists’ hideouts were observed tucked under thick foliage.
“Additionally, 3 gun trucks with terrorists were sighted moving into the location. The need to strike the location thus became imperative. The aftermath of the air strike revealed several terrorists were neutralized and the trucks destroyed,” the statement added.
The statement added that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) remained determined to significantly limit terrorist activities in the Northeast and other parts of Nigeria, emphasizing that the AFN’s operational gains are indicative of improved synergy and cooperation by all security agencies, as well as the unwavering support of all Nigerians.
