NANTAP FCT Congratulates Ola Awakan on Appointment as DG, NTDA

The Federal Capital Territory Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) has officially congratulated Mr. Ola Awakan on his appointment as the new Director-General of the Nigeria Tourism Development Authority (NTDA).

In a statement signed by the Chairman of NANTAP FCT, Om’Oba Jerry Adesewo, the association described Awakan’s selection as a significant and timely recognition of the critical interface between culture, heritage, and national tourism development.

“Mr. Awakan’s appointment is not only a recognition of his professionalism and dedication to the creative and tourism sectors, but also a reaffirmation of the importance of synergy between culture, the arts, and tourism in driving national development,” the letter declared.

Beyond his creative credentials, as a playeright, theatre maker and art writer, NANTAP believes that unnder his leadership, the NTDA will place renewed emphasis on elevating Nigeria’s “soft power” through strategic promotion of arts, festivals, museums, and cultural heritage sites.

As practitioners of theatre and performance arts in the FCT, NANTAP FCT hopes for a strengthened nexus with the NTDA. In the statement, the chapter expressed optimism about forging partnerships that will promote Nigeria’s cultural and artistic heritage as essential components of tourism growth.

“We look forward to fruitful collaborations … toward positioning Nigeria’s rich cultural and artistic heritage as a central pillar of tourism promotion,” the statement affirmed.

Residents, arts advocates, and industry watchers will be closely observing how Awakan navigates this new role, as expectations remain high for tangible progress in cultural tourism and arts-led economic development.
