The National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) has joined the global community in celebrating World Theatre Day 2025, with a call for renewed commitment to the growth of Nigerian theatre.

In a statement signed by its President, Adeniran Makinde, fta, NANTAP extended warm congratulations to theatre artists, storytellers, and cultural workers across the country, recognising their contributions to national development.

“Today, we celebrate not just our craft but the power of theatre to inspire, educate, and transform society,” Makinde stated.

This year’s theme, “Theatre as a Beacon of Hope and National Rebirth—Nigerians in Their World of Theatre,” underscores the vital role of Nigerian theatre practitioners in shaping narratives that reflect the country’s realities and projecting local voices to the global stage.

“In every performance, every script, every movement on stage, we affirm our heritage, our resilience, and our unyielding commitment to the creative industry,” he added.

Makinde also urged practitioners to embrace innovation and collaboration to ensure the industry’s continued growth, emphasising NANTAP’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for theatre to thrive.

“I celebrate you all—the actors, directors, playwrights, designers, critics, and theatre enthusiasts who keep the flame burning. May our art continue to be a beacon of hope and a force for unity,” he concluded.

World Theatre Day, observed annually on March 27, highlights the significance of theatre as a tool for cultural expression, social change, and artistic excellence.
