NAPTIP, Next 2 None Strengthen Partnership to Combat Human Trafficking
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships and adopting innovative strategies to address emerging trends in human trafficking and violence against persons in Nigeria.
The Director-General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, OON, made this known when she received the Director-General and Founder of the Next 2 None Support Initiative, Mr Ndukwe Sam Obu, and members of his organisation during a courtesy visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Bello said NAPTIP would continue to review and strengthen its policies, programmes and operational strategies to effectively respond to the changing nature of human trafficking, stressing the importance of collaboration with relevant stakeholders both within and outside Nigeria.
She expressed optimism about the proposed partnership with Next 2 None Support Initiative and assured the organisation of NAPTIP’s continued support in advancing efforts to prevent trafficking and protect vulnerable persons.
Earlier, Obu commended NAPTIP for its efforts in public awareness, victim rescue and rehabilitation, counter-trafficking policy development, stakeholder engagement and prosecution of traffickers.
He said Next 2 None’s intervention would focus on building resilience, preventing trafficking, empowering vulnerable young people and supporting the reintegration of survivors into society.
According to him, the organisation plans to provide vulnerable youths with productive skills, including tailoring and other areas of the fashion industry, as part of efforts to reduce economic vulnerability and the risk of trafficking.
The initiative will also include community awareness and sensitisation campaigns in high-risk states to help prevent trafficking before it occurs.
Obu added that the organisation would provide psychosocial support, vocational training and economic reintegration assistance to survivors in collaboration with NAPTIP and other relevant stakeholders.
The partnership is expected to strengthen community-level prevention efforts while expanding opportunities for vulnerable youths and survivors of trafficking to become economically self-reliant.
A major highlight of the visit was the signing of an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NAPTIP and Next 2 None Support Initiative.
The updated agreement defines the scope, structure and areas of collaboration between both organisations, taking into account emerging trends and changing trafficking routes.
The development further underscores the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships in tackling human trafficking, protecting vulnerable communities and supporting survivors towards sustainable recovery and reintegration.
