The command’s spokesman, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the mother, 19-year-old Aisha Bada of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, Mararaba, reported the incident on March 29. She stated that while she slept with her newborn in her uncompleted building on March 28, two unidentified men broke in, threatened her, and took her baby to an unknown location. Her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle rider, had been away in Lagos for business for the past five months.
Following the report, Commissioner of Police Shetima Mohammed directed detectives of Mararaba ‘A’ Division to investigate and ordered a full-scale operation. Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested two suspects at about 4 a.m. on Thursday: Furera Abdulrahman, 35, of Rugan Juli, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39, of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market. The baby was recovered from their possession.
The suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation and implicated an accomplice who remains at large. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The rescued infant was examined at the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where he was certified to be in good health before being reunited with his parents.
SP Nansel said the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation upon completion of preliminary inquiries. He reassured the public of the police command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
