The National Assembly has pledged to collaborate with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to develop a state policing system aimed at strengthening the fight against insecurity across the country.

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, led principal officers of the Senate on a traditional Sallah homage visit to President Tinubu at his Lagos residence on Thursday evening.

During the visit, the Senate leadership reviewed the ongoing reforms of the current administration and commended the President for policies they said had placed Nigeria on a path of economic growth and stability.

The lawmakers specifically praised the removal of fuel subsidy, the floating of the naira, and efforts that ended fuel scarcity and long queues at filling stations nationwide.

Akpabio assured the President of the continued support of the National Assembly in sustaining the administration’s reform agenda and addressing security challenges confronting the country.

The Senate President emphasized the need for closer collaboration between the executive and legislature in tackling insecurity, noting that the establishment of state police remains a critical solution to strengthening internal security architecture.

According to the Senate leadership, decentralised policing would improve local intelligence gathering, enhance rapid response to security threats, and support ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across Nigeria.

The lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Federal Government to develop policies and legislative frameworks capable of improving security and national development.
