Naval Officer Shoots Colleague in Katsina, Defence Headquarters Investigates Incident

The Defense Headquarters has reported that a naval officer on duty at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dansadua in Katsina State, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, allegedly opened fire in unclear circumstances, killing a fellow officer.

The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 3:12 a.m.

Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations, confirmed the incident in a statement, identifying the suspect as Leading Seaman Akila A., who has been arrested, disarmed, and placed in detention.

An investigation is underway, with plans to escalate the case to a standing court martial for disciplinary action upon completion of the inquiry.

“Meanwhile, the administrative procedure for notifying the family of the deceased is ongoing. It is for this reason, his name is not yet released to the public. Nevertheless, the name will be released in due course,” Buba stated.

He further urged the media to report with caution to avoid adding distress to the family of the deceased.
