NDLEA, Australian Police Sign MoU to Fight International Drug Trafficking
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations against international drug trafficking networks operating along the Nigeria-Australia route.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Abuja, NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), described the agreement as a declaration of war against transnational drug cartels.
Marwa expressed confidence that the partnership would make the Nigeria-Australia route increasingly difficult for drug traffickers to operate.
The agreement provides for intelligence sharing, coordinated operations, capacity building and controlled drug deliveries to strengthen efforts to track and dismantle international trafficking networks.
Leading the Australian delegation, Sandra Booth of the AFP said the partnership would enhance cooperation against organised crime, curb drug trafficking and protect vulnerable young people in both countries.
