NDLEA Reportedly Arrests Woman Over Drugs Allegedly Hidden in Palm Oil Keg

A Nigerian woman has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at an airport after suspected illicit drugs were allegedly discovered concealed inside a keg of palm oil she was carrying for delivery to Saudi Arabia.

According to reports, the woman claimed that another person had given her the keg and asked her to deliver it to someone in Saudi Arabia. She reportedly said she was unaware that the container allegedly concealed illicit substances.

A report by the NDLEA identified the passenger as Fatimah Ahmad and said the interception took place at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano on October 16, 2026, during clearance for an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Jeddah via Addis Ababa. The agency said the suspected cannabis weighed 511.75 grammes and that the cousin, identified as Abubakar Yahaya, was subsequently arrested at the airport car park.

The incident has prompted renewed warnings from the agency against accepting parcels or luggage from other people without verifying their contents, particularly when travelling internationally.
