NDLEA Responds to Senator Ashiru’s Allegations, Labels Them Vendetta-Driven

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has condemned recent attacks on its reputation by Senator Oyelola Ashiru of Kwara South, asserting that his remarks stem from personal vendetta rather than any genuine concern for public interest.
This statement was made during a press briefing at the NDLEA’s National Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, addressing allegations by Senator Ashiru that the agency is “corrupt and compromised.”
Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media & Advocacy for NDLEA, described the senator’s comments as “unfortunate” and clarified that they were compelled to respond due to the “uncomplimentary, unfounded, defamatory remarks” made during a Senate plenary.
While the NDLEA acknowledged the Senate’s contributions to national upliftment, it felt it necessary to address what it termed an unprovoked attack.
Babafemi stated, “We waited for a whole week hoping the lawmaker would clarify his position on such a weighty allegation against us; however, failing to do that, we have no option but to set the record straight.”
The agency outlined a troubling backstory, revealing that Senator Ashiru’s residence had been previously raided, leading to the recovery of illicit substances and the arrest of two of his aides.
The NDLEA highlighted that credible intelligence had suggested that the senator’s house was being used as a drug joint.
Babafemi remarked, “Going by this backstory, it is deductible that these encounters must have been responsible for his outburst and unfortunately false allegations.”
