NDPC Strengthens Staff Capacity with Soft Skills Training to Boost Productivity, Regulatory Impact
The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has strengthened its commitment to human capital development with a specialised soft skills training programme designed to enhance staff productivity, professionalism and regulatory effectiveness.
The training, themed “Soft Skills Training Programme for NDPC Employees: Enhancing Productivity, Professionalism, and Regulatory Impact,” brought together staff of the Commission for practical learning and professional development.
Delivering the opening remarks, the National Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, emphasised that human capital development remains critical to the success of any organisation and has therefore been identified as one of the Commission’s strategic pillars in fulfilling its mandate under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.
Dr Olatunji noted that while professional qualifications and technical expertise are important, soft skills are equally essential for career growth and effective public service.
According to him, the way individuals communicate, respond to challenges, work with others and manage responsibilities significantly shapes how they are perceived and their overall effectiveness in the workplace.
He said the training would expose participants to essential skills including effective communication, emotional intelligence, problem-solving, adaptability, resilience, teamwork, time management and leadership, among others.
Drawing from his personal experiences, the NDPC chief executive explained how these competencies could help staff become more effective professionals and better public servants.
He challenged participants to take full advantage of the programme by expanding their knowledge, improving their interpersonal abilities and developing a stronger understanding of the demands of public service.
The initiative forms part of the Commission’s broader efforts to build a highly skilled, professional and responsive workforce capable of effectively implementing Nigeria’s data protection framework and delivering stronger regulatory outcomes.
Facilitators at the training included Mr Tokunbo Smith, President of the Data Knowledge Information Privacy Protection Initiative (DKIPPI); Dr Bernard Omogo, Director of Aviation Security Regulation at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA); and Mr Oluwole Edun, a retired Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at the Federal Ministry of Communications and Technology.
The training is expected to strengthen the professional capacity of NDPC personnel and equip them with the interpersonal and leadership competencies required to deliver efficient, ethical and impactful regulatory services.
