Speaking ahead of the rainy season, Umar Abubakar noted that the SCP is a critical national resource supporting evidence-based planning across agriculture, water resources, health, disaster risk reduction, transportation, and environmental management.
“In the face of increasing climate variability and extreme weather events, NiMet’s timely and scientifically grounded forecasts continue to strengthen NEMA’s preparedness, response, and resilience,” she said.
The SCP allows NEMA to conduct expert analyses and produce climate-related risk management recommendations for key sectors, providing early warning messages to emergency responders to safeguard lives and critical national infrastructure across Nigeria.
Umar commended NiMet for its sustained commitment to climate science, innovation, and stakeholder engagement, noting that such collaboration enhances national readiness and reduces the impact of disasters.
