New Director of Naval Information, Commodore Adams-Aliu Assumes Office

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla Admiralty Medal, has announced the appointment of Commodore Aiwuyor Augustine Adams-Aliu as the new Director of Naval Information and official Spokesperson for the Nigerian Navy.

Commodore Adams-Aliu officially assumed his new role on Friday, March 22, 2024, taking over from Rear Admiral Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, who has been redeployed to Headquarters Naval Training Command.

Commodore Aiwuyor Augustine Adams-Aliu brings a wealth of experience to his new position. Born on December 15, 1977, in Lagos, Commodore Adams-Aliu hails from a family with a strong journalistic background. His early exposure to the field of journalism, thanks to his father’s profession as a veteran editor with the Daily Times of Nigeria, instilled in him a passion for public speaking and media relations.

After completing his education at Shepherd Hill Primary School and Kings College Lagos, Commodore Adams-Aliu joined the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1995. He graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy as a member of the 47 Regular Course in 2000.

Throughout his career, Commodore Adams-Aliu has undergone extensive professional training, including courses at prestigious institutions such as the United States Army Infantry School and the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji. He holds degrees from the Naval War College Nigeria and the United States Naval War College.

Commodore Adams-Aliu’s naval career spans various roles, including serving as a Watch Keeping Officer on Nigerian Navy Ships, a military observer in the United Nations Mission in Liberia, and commanding officer positions for Nigerian Navy vessels. His diverse experience has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of naval operations and administration.

In his new role as Director of Naval Information, Commodore Adams-Aliu is tasked with overseeing the communication and public relations activities of the Nigerian Navy. His appointment underscores the Navy’s commitment to transparency and effective communication with the public and stakeholders.

Commodore Adams-Aliu is the recipient of several awards and decorations, including the Meritorious Service Star and the United Nations Medal. He is also a member of prestigious professional bodies such as the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management.

In addition to his professional achievements, Commodore Adams-Aliu is a devoted family man, happily married to Dr. Loretta, with whom he shares three children.
