New Garrison Gate Honors Fallen Hero of Nigerian Army
A new garrison gate was inaugurated today at the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army in honor of late Major SA Oni, who sacrificed his life for the nation on August 13, 2023, in Niger State.

The gate was commissioned by Major General VU Okoro, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 1 Division and the Force Commander of Operation WHIRL PUNCH, a counter-insurgency operation in the north-west region of Nigeria.
Major General Okoro praised the Commander of the 1 Division Garrison, Brigadier General C Ogbuabo, for his remarkable achievements in infrastructural development and operational success since he assumed duty.
He also expressed his gratitude to Brigadier General Ogbuabo for naming the new gate after late Major Oni, whom he described as a disciplined, unassuming and exceptional officer of the Nigerian Army.
Major General Okoro said that late Major Oni’s death was a great loss to the army and the nation, and that he deserved the recognition and respect for his bravery and dedication. He prayed for the repose of his soul and the well-being of his family.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior officers and soldiers of the 1 Division, as well as relatives and friends of late Major Oni.
The ceremony featured an inspection of the quarter guard by the GOC, a cutting of the commissioning tape, an unveiling of the gate name, an unveiling of the commissioning plaque and a portrait of late Major Oni with a brief citation on his life and service.
