NiDCOM, San José State University Partner on Tech Training for Nigerian Youths
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has held a strategic meeting with the President of San José State University, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, to strengthen collaboration in education, technology, innovation and cultural exchange.
According to a statement issued by NiDCOM, a key outcome of the meeting was the proposed Silicon Valley Tech Bridge Initiative, a summer programme at San José State University designed to provide Nigerian students and young professionals with immersive training in emerging technologies.
The initiative will focus on high-demand fields, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), semiconductors and medical devices, combining specialised academic coursework with practical industry exposure.
Participants will also engage with leading global technology companies such as Adobe, LinkedIn and Jabil.
The programme will further include participation in Black Engineer Week, providing mentorship, professional networking opportunities and interactions with accomplished Nigerian professionals in the diaspora.
Dabiri-Erewa described the proposed initiative as a major step toward equipping Nigerian youths with globally competitive skills while deepening Nigeria’s engagement with its highly accomplished diaspora community.
She noted that the partnership aligns with ongoing efforts to create more opportunities for Nigerian students and young professionals to acquire world-class knowledge, practical experience and international exposure in critical sectors driving global innovation.
