Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has inaugurated a Digital Learning and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at Martin Sanda Girls Science College, Paiko, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to expanding access to science and technology education across the state.

The ICT centre was facilitated by Justice Zaynab Bashir of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, an indigene of Paiko, as part of her contribution to promoting quality education, particularly for the girl child.

Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Bago described the project as a commendable initiative, noting that Justice Bashir had demonstrated a strong sense of corporate social responsibility by investing in education at a time when greater support for the girl child is needed.

He said the initiative should serve as a challenge and inspiration to other well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the development of their communities and support educational advancement.

The governor emphasised that promoting girl-child education remains essential to building a prosperous society and called for increased private sector and individual participation in the education sector.

During the visit, Governor Bago also inspected newly renovated classroom blocks facilitated by Justice Bashir and announced additional interventions by the state government.

He directed the immediate fencing of the school and disclosed that his administration would construct a modern science laboratory and a sports complex to further strengthen science education in the institution.

The governor also urged residents of Paiko to encourage their children to study medicine and other health-related disciplines, explaining that the state government intends to establish a General Hospital in the area that would provide employment opportunities for qualified indigenous professionals.

He further assured residents that the administration’s Ward Development Project remains on course, adding that a new Commissioner for Rural Development would soon be appointed to oversee the continued implementation of projects across the state’s 25 local government areas.

In her remarks, Justice Zaynab Bashir said Governor Bago’s commitment to excellence and educational development inspired the successful execution of the ICT project.

She noted that the governor’s leadership has created an enabling environment for individuals and organisations to make meaningful contributions to society, describing him as a mentor whose vision continues to encourage development initiatives across Niger State.

Justice Bashir explained that the project was conceived on the belief that education remains one of the most effective tools for transforming lives and empowering future generations.

Also speaking, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada, Chairman of Paikoro Local Government Area, Aminu Umar Yandai, and the member representing Paikoro Constituency in the Niger State House of Assembly, Umar Nasir, commended Governor Bago for the developmental projects executed in the area.

They also praised Justice Bashir for giving back to her community through education and urged other public office holders and philanthropists to emulate her commitment to community development.
