Nigeria Customs Service Hails Success of 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Dr. Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), has expressed satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League held in Abuja.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday, Dr. Adeniyi commended the league’s high level of organisation, competitiveness, and sponsorship, describing it as “top-notch” and “highly impressive.” He emphasized that the quality of domestic volleyball leagues is already enhancing Nigerian teams’ performances on the continental stage.
“Nigeria Customs and the Nigerian Navy have continued to impress in African competitions due to the strong foundation provided by the league,” Adeniyi said. He also called for more competitions during the off-season to maintain player fitness and provide greater exposure ahead of the 2026 edition.
Dr. Adeniyi revealed plans to collaborate closely with the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) to organise more tournaments, including beach volleyball, as part of preparations for continental championships. He stressed the need for Nigerian teams to strengthen their squads by signing foreign players, citing Nigeria Customs’ recruitment of talents from Ghana, Benin Republic, and Rwanda.
He also praised the Nigerian Navy Volleyball team, noting plans to engage the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) to bolster the team for continental duties.
The league awarded cash prizes to individual and team performers. Each individual award carried ₦100,000, while teams placing fourth to twelfth received ₦500,000 each. Third-place teams earned ₦2 million, runners-up received ₦3 million, and champions were awarded ₦5 million each in both men’s and women’s categories. The NCS spent ₦48 million in subsidies to support team participation.
In the women’s category:
- COAS – ₦2 million for third place
- CNS – ₦3 million for second place
- NCS – ₦5 million for champions, marking back-to-back titles in 2023, 2024, and 2025
In the men’s category:
- NCOS – ₦2 million for third place (first-time podium finish)
- NCS – ₦3 million for second place
- CNS – ₦5 million for champions, also securing back-to-back titles
Musa Nimrod, President of the NVBF, described the 2025 CGC Premier League as a major success and announced that the Super Cup would return in January 2026, signalling renewed growth for volleyball in Nigeria.
The league has reinforced the commitment of the NCS and NVBF to developing competitive volleyball, creating opportunities for talent development, and boosting Nigeria’s presence in African competitions.
