Nigeria, Pakistan Forge Strategic Bond in Counterterrorism, Border Security

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, General Shahir Shamsad Mirza, has paid a strategic visit to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

The high-level meeting marks a significant step toward reinforcing bilateral military cooperation between Nigeria and Pakistan, particularly in areas of training, intelligence sharing, and counterterrorism.

Welcoming his Pakistani counterpart, General Musa expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a valuable move toward strengthening defence collaboration between both nations.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to continuous military capacity building in partnership with Pakistan’s Armed Forces.

“We value our growing ties with the Pakistani military, especially in the fields of Special Forces training, border security, intelligence sharing, and veteran affairs,” General Musa said.

He noted that over 2,000 Nigerian officers have been trained across various Pakistani military institutions, underscoring the productive nature of the alliance.

On his part, General Mirza commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their resilient efforts in combating terrorism, insurgency, and other security challenges.

He lauded the historical and cultural connections between the two nations, stating, “Pakistan and Nigeria share common values in religion, diversity, and a firm stance against insecurity.”

General Mirza also described Nigeria as a continental powerhouse with geo-strategic importance to Pakistan.

He expressed optimism about a future partnership with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), emphasizing the potential for deeper defence-industrial collaboration.

The meeting further reaffirmed the shared vision of both military chiefs in building a more secure and stable environment through enhanced training, mutual respect, and cooperation in tackling global and regional security threats.
