Nigeria Repatriates Turkish Fugitive to Serve 14-Year Prison Sentence
The Nigeria Police Force, through its INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, has successfully repatriated 61-year-old Turkish national Acar Huseyin to Turkey to serve his 14-year, 8-month, and 10-day prison sentence for fraud.
Huseyin, convicted earlier this year by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court, fled Turkey shortly after his judgment, travelling through the Middle East before arriving in Nigeria. Following a Red Notice issued by INTERPOL NCB Ankara in July 2025, the Abuja unit conducted discreet, intelligence-led operations that led to his arrest in the capital.
After completing necessary documentation and collaborating with international partners, Huseyin was handed over to Turkish authorities in Istanbul to commence his sentence.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the INTERPOL NCB Abuja for its professionalism and reiterated that Nigeria will not provide refuge to fugitives. He stressed the Force’s commitment to international obligations, police-to-police cooperation, and combating transnational crime.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, ANIPR, MIPRA, Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the operation from Force Headquarters, Abuja.
