Nigeria, Sweden Explore Stronger Cooperation in Digital Innovation, Creative Economy
The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on Monday received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Nigeria, Anna Westerholm, as both countries reviewed bilateral relations and explored new areas of cooperation across sectors of mutual interest.
The meeting, held in Abuja, provided an opportunity for both sides to reflect on the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and Sweden, which has been strengthened over the years through mutual respect, shared values, and collaboration in trade, development, innovation, education, governance, and sustainable growth.
Discussions centered on expanding cooperation in emerging sectors, including digital innovation, information technology, the creative economy, cultural diplomacy, film production, gaming technology, and the broader digital ecosystem.
Both parties acknowledged the significant opportunities for partnership between Nigeria’s thriving creative industry and Sweden’s globally recognised expertise in innovation, technology, and digital entrepreneurship.
Speaking during the meeting, Odumegwu-Ojukwu emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy as a strategic tool for strengthening bilateral relations, promoting mutual understanding, and unlocking economic opportunities through creative industries.
She noted that Nigeria’s cultural and creative sectors continue to play a vital role in national development and international engagement, serving as powerful platforms for economic growth and cultural exchange.
The minister also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for foreign investment and mutually beneficial economic partnerships, stressing that the Federal Government remains focused on attracting investments into strategic sectors capable of driving industrialisation, job creation, and sustainable development.
The engagement further reinforced the shared commitment of both countries to deepening cooperation and exploring innovative partnerships that can contribute to economic prosperity and technological advancement for the benefit of their citizens.
