Speaking during the visit, Dr. Mustapha Lamorde, Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community, who represented the Authority Chief Executive, highlighted Nigeria’s strategic focus on leveraging its vast gas resources to drive industrialisation, power generation, domestic energy use, and cleaner cooking solutions.

He noted that despite significant progress, infrastructure gaps remain a major challenge in transporting gas efficiently across the country. He outlined key Federal Government initiatives aimed at boosting gas utilisation, including the Decade of Gas programme, the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, and the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund, all designed to expand access and de-risk investments in the sector.

In his remarks, the leader of the EWURA delegation, Mr. Msafiri Mtepa, commended the NMDPRA for its warm reception and openness in sharing technical knowledge. He noted that Tanzania is keen on strengthening its gas sector and views Nigeria as a leading reference point due to its extensive experience and ongoing reforms.

The visit featured technical presentations from key NMDPRA directorates, covering areas such as licensing frameworks, regulatory standards, and requirements for auto gas facilities. Acting Executive Director, DSSRI, Engr. Lukeman Cardoso, emphasised the Authority’s commitment to operational excellence, stressing that safety remains a top priority in all regulatory activities.

As part of the engagement, the NMDPRA also arranged guided tours for the Tanzanian delegation to major gas infrastructure projects in Lagos and Rivers State, providing firsthand insight into Nigeria’s gas development landscape.

The visit concluded with productive discussions and a shared commitment by both institutions to explore further areas of collaboration, aimed at strengthening regulatory frameworks and advancing the growth of the gas sector in both countries.
