Nigerian-American Soldier Appeals to Trump Over Daughter’s Visa Delay
A Nigerian woman serving in the United States Army has made an emotional appeal to U.S. President Donald Trump, seeking humanitarian intervention to enable her 10-year-old daughter to join her in the United States.
The woman, who identified herself as Uzumaka, said she has been separated from her daughter for about a decade while working through the immigration process to reunite with her.
According to her, her daughter has completed the required immigration procedures but remains in Nigeria due to current visa restrictions. She said the situation has become increasingly urgent because the child is reportedly seriously ill and requires medical attention.
In an emotional video shared online, the soldier appealed directly to President Trump for an exception on humanitarian grounds, saying she has medical reports and other documentation to support her request.
“Please, Mr President, help me reunite with my daughter,” she pleaded.
Uzumaka said she had already sought assistance from her military commanders and contacted U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, but was informed that her daughter’s visa process was progressing according to established procedures.
However, with her daughter’s reported health condition worsening, she said she could no longer remain silent and was appealing for urgent intervention.
She also called on members of the public to share her message and help draw attention to her situation, saying she had attempted to reach major news organisations without success.
“This is just a mother fighting for her daughter to live and survive,” she said emotionally.
The mother’s appeal has drawn attention online, highlighting the difficult personal circumstances that immigration restrictions can create for military personnel separated from their immediate families.
