Nigerian Armed Forces Wrestlers Shine at 36th World Military Wrestling Championship
In a stellar performance at the 36th World Military Wrestling Championship, Nigerian Armed Forces wrestlers exhibited excellence and brought glory to the nation. The athletes attributed their success to the platform provided by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa , which served as their initial motivation.
When questioned about their strategies for conquering opponents, the athletes emphasised the crucial role of mindset and hard work. Activating their minds for success, they revealed that prior competitions played a significant role in their preparation, contributing to their triumph.

Looking ahead, the athletes expressed their commitment to continuous improvement. When asked about their readiness for the upcoming military games that Nigeria will host, they assured the armed forces and Nigerians of their dedication to performing at an even higher level, aiming for more medals in the future.
Corporal Ruben Hannah, the Gold medalist, credited the privilege and encouragement provided by the CDS for their remarkable performance on the global stage. “There will be more significant achievements in future competitions. We’ll bring home more medals for the armed forces and Nigeria.”
Lance Corporal Ojolaide Esther, another wrestler, echoed the commitment to doing better and securing more medals in the next competition hosted by Nigeria. The athletes conveyed their gratitude for the support received and expressed confidence in their ability to exceed expectations.
Warrant Officer Godwill Tiebiri however celebrated the team’s historic achievement, which saw them breaking a 50-year record by securing a Gold medal at the championship. He highlighted that “the CISM World Wrestling Championship began in 1973, and the Nigerian military wrestlers had previously clinched clinch silver and bronze medals,” he explained.
The success of the Nigerian Armed Forces wrestlers not only brings pride to the nation but also demonstrates the positive impact of strategic support and encouragement from leadership.
