Nigerian Army Chief Vows Enhanced Welfare Measures at Combat Arms Training Week
Subheading: Gen. Lagbaja Prioritises Troops’ Well-Being to Boost Operational Efficiency
In a resounding commitment to bolster the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel and their families, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja reaffirmed his dedication during the inauguration of Combat Arms Training (CAT) Week.
Gen. Lagbaja stated this while addressing a diverse audience at the Ihejirika Auditorium, Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State.
He underscored the pivotal role of sound administration in elevating combat arms’ efficiency within a joint environment.
With a keen eye on enhancing operational effectiveness, he emphasised that prioritising troops’ welfare is paramount.
Reflecting on the theme “Sound Administration: A Panacea for Improved Combat Arms’ Efficiency in a Joint Environment,” Gen. Lagbaja elucidated that robust administration is fundamental to historical military success.
Drawing from personal barracks experiences, he acknowledged prevailing challenges such as inadequate accommodation and infrastructure decay in medical centres and schools.
Gen. Lagbaja unveiled intervention initiatives tailored to uplift personnel and their families. Notable among these are the COAS Empowerment Loan and the Affordable Housing Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) schemes, designed to augment morale and foster family resilience.
Asserting his maiden CAT Week as COAS, Gen. Lagbaja urged combat arms to harness support corps’ competencies to fortify their doctrine and capabilities against contemporary threats.
He expressed gratitude to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast support, affirming unwavering loyalty from NA officers and soldiers.
Meanwhile, Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, represented by Commissioner for Security and Homeland Affairs Mr. Samuel Aruwan, hailed the troops’ valour in combating terrorism and insurgency.
He Emphasising global best practices, he unveiled plans for a security fund bill to intensify security efforts.
Also speaking, Major General Olufemi Oluyede, Commander Infantry Corps, highlighted CAT Week’s role in fostering a ‘Whole of Society’ approach to security challenges.
