The Nigerian Army has announced plans to conduct its First Range Classification Exercise for 2026 at the Shadawanka Small Arms Range in Bauchi State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Lieutenant Esther Fagbolagun, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters of the 33 Artillery Brigade.
According to the statement, the exercise is scheduled to take place from Monday, April 27 to Thursday, April 30, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily.
The Army explained that the exercise forms part of its annual training programme aimed at enhancing troops’ proficiency in weapon handling and the application of marksmanship principles. It will also include accurate shooting drills and test firing of personal weapons to assess the overall combat readiness of personnel.
Residents of Shadawanka and neighbouring communities have been advised to expect increased troop movement and intermittent gunfire during the period.
However, the Army reassured the public that all necessary safety measures have been put in place to ensure there is no threat to lives and property. Residents were urged not to panic but to go about their normal daily activities.
The brigade further appealed for public cooperation and encouraged community leaders and stakeholders to help disseminate the information to ensure widespread awareness.
