Gen. Lagbaja emphasised that the Nigerian Army (NA) views citizens as critical partners in addressing current security challenges. He highlighted the importance of civil support in adopting a whole-of-society approach to tackling security issues. The COAS noted that CIMIC projects, under the Chief of Army Staff’s Special Intervention, are designed to provide essential amenities and infrastructure, complementing the efforts of states.
He clarified that “these projects are not intended to compete with any level of government or provide undue political advantage to NA senior officers. Instead, they serve as a gesture of appreciation to communities contributing outstanding individuals to the NA, and encouraging ongoing support for military operations.”
Gen. Lagbaja revealed that the NA has executed over 200 COAS intervention CIMIC projects, including hospitals, roads, boreholes, and schools. He expressed gratitude to the government and the people of Cross River State for their support.
The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Dr. Peter Odeh, representing the Governor, commended the COAS for the projects and urged the community to effectively utilize and maintain the facilities.
Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Udiandeye listed the commissioned projects, emphasising their positive impact on the community’s development.
