Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar Presents Letters of Credence to Emir
Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the State of Qatar, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Amir of Qatar, at the Amiri Diwan in Doha.
The credential presentation ceremony, held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, was conducted with full diplomatic honours, including the inspection of a Guard of Honour. The ambassador was accompanied by senior officials of the Nigerian Embassy.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Yakubu held a private audience with the Amir, who welcomed him and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria.
The Qatari leader also recalled previous high-level diplomatic engagements between the two countries and expressed his country’s desire to deepen cooperation with Nigeria across key sectors.
During the meeting, Ambassador Yakubu conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Amir and the people of Qatar, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to expanding the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between both nations.
The ambassador also conveyed Nigeria’s condolences to the Amir over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City and underscored the need to strengthen collaboration in the areas of trade, investment, education, security and humanitarian affairs.
The presentation of the Letters of Credence formally marks the commencement of Ambassador Yakubu’s diplomatic mission in Qatar as both countries seek to deepen bilateral cooperation and mutual interests.
