Nigeria’s General Grema Receives Guinea Bissau’s National Medal Award

Brigadier General Al-hassan Muhammad Grema of Nigeria, who served as Force Commander of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, has been awarded the country’s National Order of Merit, Cooperation and Development Medal.

President of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, Maro Sissoco Embaló, on Thursday decorated the Presidential Palace in Bissau.

Recall that during a send-off dinner at the Hala Hotel Restaurant in Bissau, the Special Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission in Guinea Bissau, Professor Hamidou Boly, praised Nigerian pride for laying a distinctive foundation for the mission.

Professor Boly had also expressed ECOWAS’ gratitude to the FC for his efforts in enabling the integration of ECOWAS forces with the National Defence and Security Forces of the Republic of Guinea Bissau during the mission’s short deployment period.

He also ascribed the mission’s results to Gen Grema’s diplomatic approach and interpersonal relationships with mission stakeholders. He stated that in the perspective of the Guinean people, the FC has gained a positive reputation for the mission.
