NIS Debunks Claims on Passport Payment Process, Warns Against Fraudulent Platforms
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has firmly refuted circulating claims suggesting irregularities in its passport application and payment process, describing them as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on May 4, 2026, the Service clarified that its passport application system remains secure, transparent, and fully government-approved, accessible only through its official portal.
According to the NIS, the portal—http://passport.immigration.gov.ng—remains the sole authorised platform for all passport-related payments and processing for Nigerians both within the country and in the diaspora.
The Service stressed that it has not authorised any religious organisation, private entity, or individual to act as an intermediary or receive payments on its behalf.
It dismissed recent allegations claiming that a religious body is linked to its payment process, stating that such assertions do not reflect its operational structure or integrity.
“A simple review of our authorised payment portal confirms the transparency and authenticity of our system. Any third-party links or platforms claiming to process passport payments on behalf of the Service are fraudulent and should be avoided,” the statement said.
The NIS disclosed that it has commenced investigations into the source of the claims, noting that preliminary findings point to the actions of individuals attempting to mislead the public or tarnish the Service’s reputation.
It assured that appropriate measures would be taken against anyone found culpable.
Reiterating its adherence to government financial regulations, the Service noted that it works only with licensed and accredited payment providers clearly indicated on its official platform.
It warned that any payments made outside the approved channels are at the user’s risk, adding that it would not be liable for losses resulting from such transactions.
The Service urged members of the public to remain vigilant, avoid unauthorised agents or platforms, and rely solely on its official communication channels for accurate information.
It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public trust by strengthening its systems and monitoring mechanisms to prevent fraud, misuse, and misrepresentation.
For inquiries or assistance, the NIS advised the public to contact the Service through its verified social media platforms and dedicated support lines.
