NMDPRA, CORAN Strengthen Collaboration to Boost Nigeria’s Refining Sector
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has held a strategic engagement with members of the Crude Oil Refinery-Owners Association of Nigeria (CORAN) as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s domestic refining industry.
The meeting, chaired by the Authority Chief Executive, Mallam Rabiu A. Umar, provided a platform for discussions on key regulatory issues affecting the establishment, operation and sustainability of modular and conventional refineries across the country.
According to the Authority, the engagement focused on improving regulatory compliance, streamlining licensing processes, addressing operational challenges, promoting investment in local refining capacity and ensuring that refineries operate in line with approved safety, environmental and technical standards.
Participants also discussed practical measures to improve regulatory efficiency, deepen collaboration between industry stakeholders and fast-track the development of Nigeria’s refining sector in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to creating a transparent, predictable and investment-friendly regulatory environment that supports the Federal Government’s drive to achieve energy security, expand local refining capacity, reduce dependence on imported petroleum products and stimulate sustainable economic growth.
The meeting further highlighted the importance of continuous stakeholder engagement in building a resilient, competitive and self-sufficient downstream petroleum industry capable of meeting Nigeria’s growing energy demands.
The NMDPRA noted that sustained collaboration with industry players remains critical to unlocking investments, enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening the country’s petroleum value chain.
