NSCDC, INEC Strengthen Security Collaboration Ahead of Osun Governorship Election
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, OFR, mni, has visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Osun State as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and enhance security ahead of the state’s governorship election.
The visit, which took place on Thursday, was aimed at deepening coordination between the NSCDC and INEC on electoral security and ensuring the protection of personnel, facilities and sensitive electoral materials throughout the electoral process.
Prof. Audi was received by the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Oluwatoyin Babalola, alongside National Commissioners of INEC.
Discussions during the engagement focused on strategies for strengthening electoral security, improving inter-agency coordination and ensuring the safety of voters, election officials, observers and other stakeholders participating in the election.
The meeting also underscored the importance of effective collaboration between the electoral management body and security agencies in creating an environment conducive to peaceful and credible elections.
Also present at the engagement were INEC National Commissioners Dr. Ken Ikeagu, Prof. Sanni Mohammed Adam, Rear Admiral Jamila Sadiq and A. T. Yusuf.
With the Osun State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, the engagement reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC, INEC and other relevant stakeholders to maintaining peace, protecting critical electoral assets and ensuring a secure environment for citizens to exercise their democratic rights.
The visit further highlights the role of coordinated security planning in supporting a peaceful, transparent and credible electoral process in Osun State.
