The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has highlighted the Corps’ contributions to national security, human rights protection, gender inclusion and the safeguarding of critical national assets during the Fourth Nigeria–United Kingdom Security and Defence Partnership Dialogue.

The dialogue, held at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in Abuja, brought together local and international stakeholders to discuss security cooperation, democratic governance and institutional reforms.

Addressing participants, Professor Audi outlined the NSCDC’s strategic role in promoting national security through community engagement and collaboration with citizens. He stressed the Corps’ commitment to maintaining strong community relations while upholding human rights standards in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.

The NSCDC boss also showcased initiatives aimed at promoting gender inclusion within the Corps, including the establishment of a Female Squad and the implementation of a Gender Policy designed to enhance participation and representation of women in security operations.

On electoral security, Audi emphasized the Corps’ role in protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, describing them as vital to Nigeria’s economic development and national stability. He further highlighted the NSCDC’s support in ensuring peaceful, credible and violence-free elections, particularly during recent off-cycle governorship polls.

The presentation received positive reactions from members of the international community and development partners, with the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, commending the Corps for its contributions to national security, inclusion and democratic stability.

Participants at the dialogue noted that the engagement further strengthened recognition of the NSCDC as a people-focused security institution committed to protecting critical infrastructure, supporting democratic processes and promoting sustainable peace and development across Nigeria.

The Nigeria-UK Security and Defence Partnership Dialogue serves as a platform for enhancing bilateral cooperation on security, governance and institutional capacity building between both countries.
