NSEMA: Nine bodies recovered following Niger boat accident

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), says nine dead bodies have been found following a boat accident in the state’s Shiroro Local Government Area.

This was revealed in a conversation with reporters in Minna on Sunday by Alhaji Salihu Garba, the Head of Relief and Rehabilitation at NSEMA.

Recall that on Thursday, November 16, a boat accident claimed the lives of ten people.

Prior to the Friday market in Kuta, the Shiroro LGA headquarters, the victims, who were primarily traders, were allegedly transporting goods from Zongoru Community in Bassa Ward to Gijiwa when the sad incident occurred.

There were apparently at least 34 people on board, of whom 10 were said to have died and 22 to have been recovered by nearby divers.

Garba listed the names of the deceased, which included Rafiya Yakubu, Safaratu Ibrahim, Amina, Farida Muntari, Sharhabila Sagir, Bubakar Sadiq, and Na’ima Ibrahim.

He added that all of the fatalities were from Zangoro and that the agency was still in the process of identifying two of the victims.

He added that when the boat capsized, there were ten male and female youngsters and twenty adult male and female passengers.

In addition, Garba stated that a search was still on to find the remaining bodies.
