NSUK, FMC Keffi Sign Landmark MoU to Strengthen Medical Education, Research, Healthcare Delivery
Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has entered into a landmark partnership with the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, aimed at strengthening medical and allied health sciences education, clinical training, research, innovation and healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
The strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Abuja, marking a significant step in NSUK’s efforts to produce highly skilled and globally competitive healthcare professionals.
Leading the university’s delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, described the agreement as a transformative partnership that would significantly strengthen the institution’s Medical and Allied Health Sciences programmes.
She said the collaboration would help bridge the gap between classroom learning, laboratory instruction and practical clinical experience while creating expanded opportunities for research, innovation and professional development.
Partnership to Expand Clinical Training and Research
Under the agreement, NSUK and FMC Keffi will collaborate in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students, with emphasis on clinical rotations, internships and residency programmes.
The two institutions will also establish joint research committees, shared laboratories and innovation hubs to promote cutting-edge research and encourage the development of solutions to Nigeria’s healthcare challenges.
The MoU provides for cooperation in staff recruitment, placement, training, continuous professional development and capacity building, as well as arrangements for the remuneration of academic staff.
Both institutions will also jointly utilise and invest in critical infrastructure, including laboratories, classrooms, libraries, ICT facilities, simulation centres and student accommodation.
Focus on Quality Healthcare and Community Development
Beyond academic training, the partnership is expected to strengthen patient care while promoting the highest standards of professional ethics and practice.
NSUK and FMC Keffi will collaborate on public health programmes, community outreach initiatives and state-wide health interventions, while exploring additional areas of cooperation capable of contributing to healthcare development across Nigeria.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, commended the partnership, describing it as a timely initiative aligned with the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen medical education and develop a resilient healthcare workforce under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Salako stressed that strategic partnerships between universities and healthcare institutions are essential to improving health outcomes and producing competent professionals capable of responding effectively to Nigeria’s evolving healthcare needs.
Also speaking, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, Hon. John D. W. Mamman, expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and FMC Keffi for supporting the initiative.
He described the agreement as a major boost to both tertiary education and healthcare delivery in Nasarawa State.
The MoU reflects the shared commitment of NSUK and FMC Keffi to combine their expertise, facilities and resources in advancing medical education, research, innovation and quality healthcare services.
The ceremony concluded with the formal signing of the agreement and a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to sustain the partnership and develop it into a model for effective collaboration between academic institutions and healthcare providers in Nigeria.
Among the principal officers who accompanied the Vice-Chancellor were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Linkages) and the Registrar.
