NYSC Demobilizes 54 Unqualified Graduates from University of Calabar, Commends VC for Exposing Fraud

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken decisive action against 54 individuals who were illegally mobilized for the National Youth Service by the University of Calabar.
These “graduates” have been demobilized by the NYSC as part of its ongoing efforts to prevent unqualified candidates from obtaining the NYSC Certificate of National Service.
Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director-General of NYSC, made this known in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by Mr. Eddy Megwa, the Director of Information and Public Relations.
Ahmed emphasized that those demobilized will face prosecution as the scheme continues its crackdown on fraudulent mobilizations.
In addition to the 54 demobilized, another 19 candidates who had registered online for mobilisation have been barred from service, while the NYSC has withheld four certificates of national service from other culprits.
This brings the total number of voided certificates to 178, following the recent invalidation of 101 certificates.
The D-G praised Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, for her integrity in alerting the NYSC about the presence of unqualified graduates on the institution’s mobilization list.
“The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar came here to report that she observed some names appeared on the institution’s list and they ought not to have been there.
“She checked the list the school gave us, and I told her that their certificates would be invalidated. I give kudos to the Vice-Chancellor,” Ahmed said.
Ahmed highlighted a past incident where a bread seller was fraudulently mobilized as a graduate from the same institution, underscoring the prevalence of fraudulent activities in certain quarters. He assured that the NYSC would not relent in its efforts to sanitize its mobilization process.
The D-G also stated that the scheme would strengthen its collaboration with all Heads of Corps Producing Institutions and relevant stakeholders to eradicate this menace.
He noted that any lapse in the mobilization process reflects poorly on the integrity of the institution’s management.
Ahmed urged employers to diligently verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates presented for job placements, emphasizing the importance of integrity in the data entry process for graduates.
