NYSC Enforces Industrial Training Requirement for Polytechnic Graduates

By Matthew Eloyi

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced a strict enforcement of its policy requiring graduates from polytechnics and monotechnics to complete a mandatory one-year Industrial Training (IT) before participating in the national service.

Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, the NYSC Coordinator for Lagos State, revealed this development during an interview with newsmen on Saturday in Lagos.

She noted that the NYSC had issued a circular to all relevant institutions, emphasizing the importance of adhering to this requirement.

“It has been noticed in recent times that some graduates of polytechnics and monotechnics do not observe the mandatory one-year IT before being admitted for the HND programme,” Baderinwa said.

“The one-year IT is a prerequisite for HND. They must undergo the one-year IT with evidence of completion before going for HND, and institutions must confirm this before admitting them for HND.”

Baderinwa added that the directive would take effect from the next orientation camp and that the NYSC would not register any candidate who had not completed the IT process.

This measure aims to uphold the sanctity of Nigeria’s education system, ensuring that all graduates meet the necessary qualifications before advancing.

Prospective corps members who are HND graduates will now be required to present evidence of their completed IT before being registered at any NYSC orientation camp.

This move is expected to standardize the educational qualifications and maintain the integrity of the national service programme.
