The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the timetable for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation course, setting the stage for thousands of prospective corps members to begin their national service across the country.
The schedule was made public in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the scheme’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs Caroline Embu, who outlined key dates and important guidelines for participants.
According to the statement, the three-week orientation exercise will take place simultaneously in all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, bringing together eligible Nigerian graduates for the mandatory programme.
The NYSC said registration and reception of prospective corps members will begin on April 22 and continue until midnight on April 24 at orientation camps nationwide.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for April 24, marking the official commencement of activities for the orientation course, which is expected to run until May 12. At the end of the programme, corps members will proceed to their respective places of primary assignment across the country.
While urging participants to prepare adequately for the exercise, the scheme placed strong emphasis on safety, particularly during travel to orientation camps.

“Prospective corps members are advised to break their journeys once it is 6.00 p.m. and pass the night at any available lodge or secure location nearby.
“They are to continue their journeys the following morning,” Embu stated.
She reiterated the scheme’s longstanding warning against night travel, stressing the importance of adhering strictly to safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of all participants.
The NYSC also encouraged all mobilised graduates to plan their trips early and take necessary precautions ahead of the exercise.
The orientation course remains a compulsory component of the national service programme, designed to prepare Nigerian graduates for the one-year service to the nation.
Established in 1973, the NYSC continues to play a vital role in fostering national unity and integration by deploying graduates to states outside their regions of origin, thereby promoting cross-cultural understanding and nation-building.
