Obasanjo Applauds Governor Mutfwang’s Leadership, Calls for Global Recognition of Plateau Unity Carol
Says Plateau has built a model of continuity, unity, and spiritual tourism
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has lauded Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for upholding a strong culture of unity, continuity, and spiritual cohesion through the Plateau Unity Christmas Carols.
Addressing thousands of worshippers at the Ten Commandments Prayer Ground in Doi, Jos South LGA, on Friday, November 28, 2025, Obasanjo said he was deeply inspired by the atmosphere of togetherness and faith in the state. He credited Governor Mutfwang’s leadership for strengthening peace and advancing a legacy that continues to unite Plateau people.
The former President also commended former Governor Jonah David Jang for conceiving the Ten Commandments project, describing it as a visionary initiative that has grown into a global symbol of resilience, faith, and cultural identity.
“Senator Jang, many didn’t understand this vision when it began. Not many start something like this and survive it. But you started, you endured, and today you can witness the harvest of your labour. I congratulate you,” Obasanjo said.
He praised Governor Mutfwang for sustaining and improving upon the initiative with integrity and purpose. “You have maintained continuity, something our society and governments often struggle with,” he noted.
Obasanjo emphasized that the Plateau Unity Christmas Carol has the potential to become a world-class spiritual tourism event and urged the state government to develop a long-term plan to place it on the global tourism calendar.

“This event deserves global attention. People across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond should know that every year, for three days, this unique gathering holds here,” he said, calling for improved infrastructure to accommodate future international pilgrims.
Declaring the festival open, Governor Mutfwang said unity remains the foundation upon which the state’s development must rest. He urged citizens to set aside divisions and embrace reconciliation, noting that past internal conflicts had slowed Plateau’s progress.
“We gather under one banner—the banner of Jesus Christ. We are dropping everything that divides us. With unity, we will achieve more,” the Governor stated.
Describing Plateau as a divine gift to Nigeria, Mutfwang reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding trust, harmony, and shared purpose. He dedicated the event to God and prayed for renewed brotherhood among all residents.
The 2025 Plateau Unity Christmas Carol brought together former President Obasanjo, General Martin Luther Agwai, former Governor Jonah David Jang, senior government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and thousands of worshippers—reinforcing Plateau’s reputation as a beacon of peace, faith, and unity.
