Oluremi Tinubu Celebrates 70 Years of Women in Policing, Commends NPF’s Gender Reforms

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has joined the Nigeria Police Force in commemorating the 70th anniversary of women in policing—an event she described as a landmark celebration of courage, resilience, and national service.

Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, the First Lady praised the NPF for prioritising gender mainstreaming and aligning its policies with global best practices, especially under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. She noted that the Force has made significant progress in promoting inclusion, leadership opportunities, and professional development for female officers across all ranks.

Senator Tinubu reaffirmed that the police uniform symbolizes dignity, honour, and responsibility, adding that today’s generation of women officers continue to chart a path of excellence that strengthens national security.

She expressed confidence that the next generation of female police officers will build an even stronger foundation, shaping a policing system that is more inclusive, professional, and responsive to the needs of Nigerians.

The First Lady encouraged women in uniform never to underestimate their role in nation-building, stressing that their service, sacrifices, and leadership remain critical to a safer and more secure Nigeria.
