Operation FANSAN YAMMA: Troops Arrest Two Suspected Terrorists, Recover Arms in Zamfara
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered weapons, ammunition and other items during an intelligence-led night patrol in Zamfara State.
The operation was conducted in the early hours of August 25, 2026, by troops operating from the Forward Operating Base, Kaura Namoda, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and restrict the movement of criminal elements across vulnerable communities in the state.
According to the military, the troops intercepted and arrested two suspects at about 1:50 a.m. The suspects were identified as 25-year-old Jabiru Hassan and 23-year-old Umaru Bello, both reportedly from Ilela Village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Items recovered during the operation included one AK-47 rifle, two rifle magazines, one locally fabricated Dane gun, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 18 Dane-gun cartridges.
Troops also recovered two Baofeng radio sets, a mobile phone, a camouflage vest, two jungle hats, a motorcycle, two MP3 players, a handbag and ₦44,500 in cash.
Preliminary examination of the mobile phone recovered from one of the suspects reportedly uncovered photographs and video materials considered potentially significant to the ongoing investigation.
The recovered materials are being subjected to further verification and forensic analysis to establish the suspects’ alleged connections with wider terrorist networks and criminal activities operating in Zamfara State.
Authorities said the investigation is expected to provide further intelligence on the suspects’ movements, associates and operational networks.
