The recovery occurred on 2 January 2026, after troops received a distress call reporting suspicious metallic objects concealed in a drainage channel. OPHK forces, supported by Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams, quickly secured the site and conducted a thorough search.
The operation yielded 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, including live warheads, as well as power banks. Safety measures were immediately implemented, and efforts are ongoing to drain the channel to check for additional hazardous materials.
No casualties or incidents were reported, and the security situation in the area remains calm. Troops continue to maintain a strong presence to safeguard residents, critical infrastructure, and prevent any attempt by criminal or terrorist elements to reclaim the recovered items.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, OPHK Media Information Officer, emphasized the importance of intelligence-led operations and community cooperation, noting that timely information from the public is crucial to preventing potential threats. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies to help sustain peace and security in the region.
