Operation Renamed to ‘FANSAN YAMMA,’ Vows to Crush Banditry in Zamfara
In a bold step to strengthen the fight against insecurity, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has paid an official visit to Zamfara State. His visit, aimed at assessing operational areas and engaging with key stakeholders, signifies his dedication to restoring peace in the region.
A press statement released by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, revealed that General Musa expressed his gratitude to Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, for his support of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and other security agencies in the state.
He lauded the governor for the significant development seen in the past year despite ongoing security challenges.
General Musa noted the resilience of Zamfara’s people, who, despite the insecurity, appeared hopeful.
“I am here in solidarity with the people of Zamfara, and I assure you that peace will soon be restored. This is the mandate given by President Bola Tinubu,” he declared.
The CDS further committed to ensuring the safety of farmers, vowing to secure farmlands so that the state’s agricultural sector can thrive without bandit interference.
He emphasised the dedication of the security forces stationed in Zamfara, pledging that all notorious bandits will be brought to justice.
In a significant announcement, General Musa revealed the renaming of ongoing military operations in the state to “Operation FANSAN YAMMA” and upgraded the operation to a theatre command status.
This structural shift is expected to improve coordination and control among military and security agencies.
He also confirmed that President Tinubu had approved the deployment of additional military platforms to enhance the mission’s success.
General Musa called on Zamfara’s residents to support the military by sharing intelligence on bandit activities, warning against aiding the criminals.
“We need the public’s cooperation to win this fight. Do not be informants to bandits, but rather assist the security agencies in bringing lasting peace,” he urged.
The CDS commended the bravery of troops under Operation HADARIN DAJI, who recently ambushed and neutralised scores of terrorists along the Gusau-Funtua road, including the notorious kingpin Haliru Buzu.
He praised the troops for their determination, stating, “Machines don’t fight wars, people do.”
He pledged continued support for their welfare and rewarded their efforts on the spot.
Governor Lawal, in his remarks, expressed appreciation for the CDS’s dedication, noting that General Musa’s road journey from Abuja to Zamfara demonstrated his commitment.
The governor assured the military of the state government’s full cooperation in achieving security objectives, stating, “General Musa has proven himself an achiever wherever he has served, and I am confident that these new measures will bring peace to Zamfara.”
The visit has infused renewed hope among Zamfara’s citizens, who now believe that the end of banditry may be within reach.
