The Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps has recorded another breakthrough in its efforts to protect public infrastructure and combat criminal activities with the conviction of two individuals for stealing iron rods from a federal road construction site along the Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway.

The convicted persons, Damilare Oladunjoye and Azeez Ibironke, were sentenced to one year imprisonment by Magistrate Adedokun Ayeni of Magistrate Court II, Ilesa Division, after being found guilty of stealing iron rods belonging to an ongoing road construction project on the Ibadan-Ilesa Expressway.

According to the Corps, the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps during a routine midnight patrol on June 1, 2026. The patrol team reportedly intercepted the duo while they were transporting stolen iron rods concealed in a sack on a motorcycle along the expressway.

The suspects allegedly attempted to flee upon sighting the patrol vehicle but were pursued and apprehended by the operatives.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both men confessed to stealing the iron rods from the construction site. They further admitted that they had previously engaged in similar thefts at the same location.

According to their statements, iron rods stolen during previous operations were sold to a scrap dealer for ₦35,000, with the proceeds shared between them.

Following the completion of investigations, the suspects were arraigned before Magistrate Court II, Ilesa Division, on June 2, 2026, by the Legal Adviser of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Barrister Oyedele Akintayo, on a three-count charge bordering on stealing under the laws of Osun State.

After reviewing the case, the court found the defendants guilty and sentenced them to one year imprisonment each. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Reacting to the judgment, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, commended the vigilance and professionalism of the operatives involved in the arrest.

He disclosed that the recovered iron rods formed part of materials earmarked for a major Federal Government road construction project and were valued at several millions of naira.

“The conviction of these offenders sends a strong message that criminal activities, particularly the theft and vandalism of public infrastructure, will not be tolerated in Osun State. We remain committed to working tirelessly to protect lives, property, and government investments across the state,” he said.

The Corps Commander also praised the judiciary for the swift handling of the matter and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensuring that individuals involved in criminal activities are brought to justice.

The Osun Amotekun Corps urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts aimed at combating crime and maintaining peace and order across the state.
