Heads of Local Government Administration (HLAs) in Osun State have been charged to brace up for the challenges which the emerging autonomy of the third tier of government has bestowed on them.

This charge was given by the Chairman, Osun State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Tunji Adeleke (Jnr) at a sensitization programme organized by the Commission for the HLAs.

While reminding them that they had not been exposed to so many responsibilities since they came on board, the Chairman admonished the HLAs to take advantage of the training to sharpen their skills for the new assignment.

Further emphasizing the need to be meticulous in their dealings, the Chairman counselled the HLAs: “You can delegate, but don’t abdicate your responsibilities”

In his lecture, the Auditor-General for Local Government in Osun State, Mr. Oyewole Awotunde, who underscored the enormity of the new responsibility, as Accounting Officer in their domains, advised the HLAs to make transparency, accountability and value for money their watchwords in local government administration.

In his contribution, the General Manager, Bureau of Public Procurement, Engr. M. A Oyetola harped on the need for the local government Career Heads to be conversant with relevant procurement laws, warning that violation of public procurement laws is a serious offence.

Speaking on behalf of the HLAs, the Forum Head, Dr. Wale Adedapo assured the State Government of continued solid cooperation and support without compromising requisite enabling laws.

Also present at the sensitization programme were Commissioners 1 and 2 in the Commission, Honourables Jimoh Adetoro and Adesina Alaran respectively, the Special Adviser, Hon. Adeyinka Adeyemi as well as the management team led by the Permanent Secretary in the Commission, Mrs Modupe Irelewuyi.
