Since the beginning of 2026, Motsepe has added roughly $600 million to his fortune, driven largely by gains in his mining investments, particularly African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) and Harmony Gold.

Shares of African Rainbow Minerals have climbed more than 27 percent this year, boosting the value of Motsepe’s holdings in the company to approximately $1.53 billion. At the same time, his indirect 11.8 percent stake in Harmony Gold is now valued at about $1.83 billion. Together, his mining interests are estimated to be worth around $3.36 billion.

The rally reflects strong investor demand for gold amid global economic uncertainty, with mining stocks benefiting from rising commodity prices and improved margins.

Motsepe’s growing wealth places him firmly among South Africa’s richest individuals and ranks him 965th on Forbes’ global billionaires list, reinforcing his status as one of Africa’s most influential business leaders.

Market analysts say sustained strength in precious metals could further support Motsepe’s portfolio, highlighting the continued importance of mining assets in Africa’s wealth creation landscape.
