The Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Mrs. Helen Edward Dabup, mni, has urged management and staff of the board to uphold discipline, dedication and transparency in the discharge of their duties to improve service delivery.

Dabup made the call during a meeting with the management and staff of the board, where she stressed the importance of commitment to duty and adherence to the ethics of the public service.

She expressed concern over reports of missing files and warned that staff found responsible for such misconduct would face disciplinary measures, including the issuance of queries.

The Executive Secretary also urged staff to treat pensioners with love, respect and compassion, noting that caring for retired workers is a responsibility that should be carried out with sincerity and dedication.

Dabup said she had never personally received money from pensioners throughout her service, adding that the only cases brought to her attention involved pensioners with critical medical conditions, as referred by the Chairman.

She further emphasised the importance of transparency, proper documentation and effective records management, urging staff to ensure that files are properly arranged, preserved and readily accessible for future reference.

While reaffirming her commitment to staff welfare, Dabup assured workers of her willingness to support them within her capacity. She, however, encouraged them to embrace contentment, take their responsibilities seriously and work collectively for the progress of the board.

Speaking at the meeting, the Director of Finance, Mrs. Pauline Mangtu, commended the Executive Secretary for her commitment to staff welfare and urged workers to accept constructive corrections, remain focused and demonstrate responsibility in their assignments.

Similarly, the Director of Administration, Mr. Paul Dachi, described Dabup as a mother whose words of encouragement should be valued by staff.

Dachi stressed the need for diligence, continuous orientation and regular training to equip personnel with adequate knowledge of the board’s operations and improve their performance.

The Staff Officer, Mr. Shadrack, highlighted challenges arising from errors made by some pensioners during the audit and capturing process, noting that such mistakes often create additional difficulties for the board.

He also called for improved staff motivation, efficient dispatch services, additional shelves for proper file storage and the provision of face masks to support personnel in carrying out their duties.

Another staff member, Mr. Izang, commended the Executive Secretary for her leadership and raised concerns over alleged misconduct by some individuals from outside the board. He pledged to remain vigilant and contribute to protecting the board’s operations.

The meeting provided an opportunity for management and staff to discuss challenges affecting service delivery, strengthen internal collaboration and reaffirm their commitment to improving the welfare of pensioners and the overall performance of the board.
