Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force have uncovered a kidnappers’ hideout in the Sauka area along the Airport Road, Abuja.
In a swift operation, four notorious suspects were arrested, including an ex-convict.
The suspects, identified as Yau Sani (also known as Baba), Nuhu (also known as Giwa), Kabiru Mohammed, and Yusuf Hassan, were apprehended by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the FCT Police Command on October 1.
According to the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrests followed credible intelligence that led operatives to the hideout.
“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the FCT Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, trailed and arrested four notorious kidnappers who have been terrorising the Federal Capital Territory,” Adeh confirmed.
“The suspects confessed to being responsible for a series of kidnappings in the FCT and its environs, as well as the killing of seven victims in the process,” she added.
The gang, which had attacked several communities including Dakwa, Dawaki, Aco Estate, Dupe Village near Zuma Rock, and Kuchiko Village, extended their criminal activities to parts of Niger and Kaduna States.
Following their arrest, the suspects led police operatives to another hideout in Gauraka Forest, Suleja, Niger State, where four AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, and 162 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
“The suspects also confessed their plans to attack government institutions and estates within the FCT, which have been proactively prevented by the command,” the police statement added.
The FCT Command reiterated its commitment to eradicating crime and urged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, and 07057337653. Complaints can also be lodged via the PCB on 09022222352 or CRU at 08107314192.
