President Tinubu Applauds Super Eagles’ Grit Despite AFCON Final Loss
President Bola Tinubu has lauded the resilience of the Super Eagles despite their 2-1 defeat against the hosts in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu commended the team, coach, crew, and management for their dedication and hard work throughout the tournament.
He acknowledged the challenges the team overcame and emphasized the need for unity and continued effort.
“Let this passing event not dispirit us, but bring us together to work harder. We are a great nation bound as one by the green-white-green banner of resilience, joy, hope, duty, and untiring love,” the statement read.
President Tinubu also encouraged Nigerian youths to pursue their dreams, assuring them of support from his administration.
Sunday’s match marked an incredible achievement for the Ivorians, who had faced elimination in the group stage after a heavy defeat to Equatorial Guinea on January 22.
The Ivorians, who saw a remarkable turnaround in their performance under new coach Emerse Fae, secured victory in front of a packed stadium with many fans watching from vantage points on stairways.
While Cup of Nations finals tend to be low-scoring affairs, the thrilling tournament concluded with a testament to the perseverance and dedication of the teams involved.
