President Tinubu Approves Two-Week Leave for Vice President Shettima
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a two-week leave for Vice President Kashim Shettima, beginning Thursday, August 6, 2026, marking his first official leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
The leave will provide the Vice President with an opportunity for study, reflection and intellectual renewal as part of efforts to further strengthen his capacity for national service.
During the period, Senator Shettima is expected to review key government programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the next phase of implementing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since taking office, the Vice President has played a pivotal role in coordinating and supervising several strategic government initiatives spanning economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
He has also chaired meetings of the National Economic Council (NEC), working closely with state governors, the Central Bank of Nigeria and other key stakeholders to drive policies aimed at improving Nigeria’s economy and the welfare of citizens.
On the international stage, Senator Shettima has represented President Tinubu at major regional and global engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.
The Vice President remains committed to supporting President Tinubu’s vision of building a more secure, productive and prosperous Nigeria. He is expected to resume official duties at the end of the two-week leave with renewed energy and focus to continue advancing the administration’s developmental agenda.
